Guide to East Coast Malaysia & Hotels
Malaysia’s east coast has some of its best beaches and excellent scuba diving. Tanjong Jara Resort is located close to the town of Kuala Terengganu, in a region renowned for its peaceful way of life and picturesque villages. Redang Island, set 30 miles off the coast, has crystal clear water, white sandy beaches and some of the best coral diving in Malaysia. Tioman Island, close to Kuantan, is blessed with great beaches and ringed by white coral. |
Travel
To reach Tanjong Jara Resort, fly from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu. We can arrange for you to be met there and transferred privately to the Resort; a journey time of around an hour. From £31 per person. Redang Island is a 75- minute flight from Kuala Lumpur’s Subang Airport, operated with a daily service by Berjaya Air. Tioman Island is a one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, also operated daily by Berjaya Air and departing from Subang Airport. We can arrange these flights, but also a private car transfer between KL’s International
Airport and Subang Airport. Prices on request.
When to go
The East Coast has a particularly diverse climate with two clear seasons. The best time to visit is from April to October, when the weather is at its driest. This is also the only period when snorkelers and divers will enjoy clear waters and good visibility. The monsoon season affects the eastern coastline and islands from November through to February with strong winds and rain. |
Japamala Tioman Island
Fashionably rustic, Japamala is a boutique resort with true seclusion, set amidst 11 acres of lush wilderness and flanked by an inviting beach. Open all year round the location on the south west corner of Tioman Island means it is mostly sheltered from the east coast monsoon (Nov-Feb).
