Set just off Thailand’s south-west coast, Phuket is the country’s largest island, and blessed with magnificent coves and bays, palm-fringed beaches and numerous sparkling islands. Phuket offers the greatest range of hotel accommodation styles and activities for those who want more than just a beach. |
Travel
There are scheduled flights to Phuket from Bangkok, with a journey time of around 70 minutes. The airport is to the north of the island and transfer times vary from 10-60 minutes. We can pre-arrange for you to be met on arrival and privately transferred to your hotel from £16 per person.
Guide to the beaches
Patong beach boasts a long stretch of sandy beach, lively night markets, restaurants, bars and evening entertainment. Cape Panwa is a secluded location with a lovely private beach. Karon beach is close to Patong, but relatively quiet but with a good choice of bars and restaurants, and a sandy beach. Bang Tao offers a white sandy beach and inland lagoons which link five of Phuket’s most sophisticated hotels. Kata beach is popular with families. The secluded bay and fishing village of Kamala still retains its small-town atmosphere with casual restaurants lining the beach.
When to go
The dry, coolest period is from November to February and this proves to be the most popular time for visitors. The rainy season from June to October brings a mixture of sunshine and tropical downpours, with spring from March to May offering hot weather (35°C). Generally the temperature throughout the year averages 30°C.
